What Sydney mum plans to do with $20 million Powerball win

A young Sydney mother who could barely afford a coffee last week has joked she can now afford to buy an entire café after scooping $20 million in the Powerball draw.

The woman’s entry was one of two Division One winning entries in the draw on Thursday, with another winner in WA yet to claim their share of the $40 million jackpot.

The overwhelmed winner, from Lewisham, explained she discovered her win last night and hadn’t slept since.

“I’m in shock! I’m seriously still in shock. I’m just so happy, it’s huge!" the woman told a NSW Lotteries official.

“I’m still pinching myself. I couldn’t believe if it was true or not so I said I’ll wait and see if I get a phone call."

The woman claims the news nearly gave her husband a heart attack after the couple had fallen on hard times recently.

“It’s come at the best time. It’s been struggle after struggle,” she said.

“I said to my husband two days ago ‘Can you buy me a coffee?’ He said ‘I’ve only got $3 in my wallet’, but he went through the car and found all these coins and came home with a coffee for me,” she said.

“I couldn’t afford a daily coffee then, but I might go buy a café now!”

Although her plans to enter the coffee industry aren't set in concrete, the mother does plan to buy her first home and set her family up for the future.

“I’m definitely going to buy a house – we’re renting at the moment. Our own place finally! This is just a dream come true!”

In addition to winning the coveted Division One prize, the woman’s PowerHit entry also won Division Two 19 times, winning her a grand total of $20,552,555.15.

The Lott’s Division One winning tally has now reached 308 so far this financial year, including 96 won by NSW Lotteries customers.

The six winning numbers in the draw were 10, 17, 35, 40, 22 and 30, while the all-important Powerball number was 7. The Lott has prompted WA players to check their tickets with $20 million still to be claimed by one lucky punter.
