Driver's very relaxed attitude to sinking 4WD

Video footage has emerged of an Aussie man's very relaxed attitude as he clutches a can while his 4WD becomes inundated with water.

He appears to have miscalculated how high the water was before driving in and instantly regrets his decision.

"I knew I shouldn’t have done [this]. Peer pressure’s the worst," the driver says as he clutches his Wild Turkey can and cigarettes, with water flooding inside the vehicle.

The driver is seen scrambling to pick up his belongings with water up to his neck.

"I'm seriously about to roll this thing," he says as another vehicle back on the beach tries to try to tow them out of trouble.

The incident unfolds at Lake Macquarie, in NSW's Hunter region, according to news.com.au.

Footage of the incident was posted on the Off-road with Nick & Mik Facebook page where it has been shared more than 3000 times, viewed 407,000 times and attracted upwards of 4000 comments by Friday morning after being posted on Wednesday.

The video has attracted bemused comments, with people making light of the driver's reaction.

"The secret to getting out of this kind of situation is to ... never let go of the canny you're holding," one man said.

"Doesn't want to let go of the beer. Hilarious... peer pressure always gets ya lol," another commenter wrote.

But others were not so impressed, with one Facebook user saying: "Yeah I have a 4x4 I can go anywhere... it’s people like u that get us kicked out of places."

"This just make me angry," another agreed.
