Outrage after dad shares video of his 60m bungee jump holding toddler

A father has been criticised after he attached his two-year-old daughter to himself and bungee jumped from a 60 metre-high bridge.

Redha Rozlan, a prominent Malaysian daredevil, took to Instagram on Monday to share footage of himself and his daughter Mecca as they prepared to jump from the bridge in Kuala Kubu Baru, 50km north of Kuala Lumpur.

In the clip, Mecca can be seen clinging onto her father with a glum look across her face. Mr Rozlan appears to comfort his daughter by patting her on the back before they are yanked off the ledge and plummet below.

Hundreds of Instagram users lambasted Mr Rozlan for deciding to jump from the bridge with his daughter attached, deeming his actions as irresponsible.

"This is child abuse," one user said.

"This surely violates some laws somewhere. Is the child even safely strapped in and which international safety standards is being adhered to???" another questioned.

Following the online backlash, Mr Rozlan spoke out to reassure his daughter's safety was his main priority and that she had insisted on joining him.

"Mecca was the one who asked to go on the rope swing. I did not force her," he wrote.

She really enjoyed the first jump and asked for a second jump... Meccas was wearing a complete safety harness and gear."

However the online community was still unconvinced, with many suggesting his daughter was too young.

"I don't support this at all, no matter what he has said," one user commented.

However some offered their support to Mr Rozlan, with others also commending Mecca's bravery.

"Let your kids choose whatever they love to do," one commented read.

Following the uproar, the company responsible for the bungee jump, Rentas Adventures, released a statement to clarify the incident.

“This is my official statement as one of the rope swing organisers on the Kuala Kubu Baru bridge," the statement, translated by Malaysian news site World of Buzz, said.

"For your information, people who jump with their children are classified as “special cases” and are only allowed to proceed after we have assured all safety measures have been taken.”

“We will no longer be allowing people to jump with their children for now.”
