Australian 'drowns' surfing at popular Indonesian beach

An Australian man has died after it’s believed he drowned while surfing off a popular tourist beach in Indonesia.

Andrew Wiseman, 52, was surfing alone at Tanjung Aan Beach off Lombok on Sunday but was later found dead, News Corp reports. It’s believed the 52-year-old may have drowned.

Jivana Resort Kuta posted on Facebook that Mr Wiseman had died on Monday. It’s believed the resort is run by his brother Steven.

“Will always love you Andy, you still make me smile,” Steven wrote on Facebook.

A woman commented on the post saying Mr Wiseman was “always the life of the party” and “will be very missed”.

Another user posted Mr Wiseman was one of his “greatest friends" had "gone way too soon”.

“You will be forever missed, always with me,” he wrote.

The Jakarta Post reported that Mr Wiseman went surfing at 11am local time but was found dead at about 1pm. It cited his death as drowning.

A Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade spokesperson confirmed DFAT "is providing consular assistance to the family of an Australian who died in Indonesia, in accordance with the Consular Services Charter".

"For privacy reasons we are unable to provide further details," the spokesperson said.
