Mysterious 'sea creature' washes up on beach baffling locals

A confused beachgoer has been left scratching his head after he discovered a mysterious “Loch Ness-type” sea creature washed on a beach.

Jeff Warren was walking along a beach at Wolf Island National Wildllife Refuge with his son in the American state of Georgia when they spotted the bizarre creature.

Stretching nearly one-and-a-half metres in length, Warren initially thought he had found a dead seal but a closer look revealed otherwise.

Locals at Skipper’s Fish House spoke about the legend of “Alty” – the local equivalent of the Loch Ness Monster who is said to roam the seas in the area.

US Fish and Wildlife Service Director Dan Ashe offered a different explanation.

Mr Ashe said many sea animals have a way of decomposing which means they resemble a Plesiosaur, a long-necked marine dinosaur that first existed more than 200 million years ago.

He said there have been examples of some basking sharks, nearly 10 metres in length, washing up in such a way that they look as if they have a long neck and small head, in a similar way to a prehistoric creature.
