Elderly driver attempts U-turn as truck speeds towards him

The moment a truck driver narrowly avoided a catastrophic collision with an an elderly driver performing a U-turn has been caught on camera.

Heart-stopping dashcam footage was shared on Dash Cam Owners Australia Facebook page on Sunday showing the male driver attempting the manoeuvre on a rural road in Don Valley, about 50km west of Melbourne.

The driver can be seen slowly edging over the continuous double road line as the truck hurtles towards him.

The truckie slams his brakes on, clipping the back of the sedan as it is forced off the road onto the grass.

"F****** idiot! What were you thinking?!" the truck driver can be heard shouting.

The truck driver, named as Kulwinder, claims the elderly man told him he had been distracted and hadn't seen him coming.

He also says the man was oblivious that their vehicles had connected, asking: "Did you hit me?"

Neither driver suffered any injuries from the crash.

According to VicRoads, motorists are not allowed to make a U-turn on a road if there is a double continuous line down the centre of the road.
