Bizarre moment burglar slides on stomach during home invasion

A burglar has been caught on camera behaving in a bizarre fashion after dropping to the floor of a Melbourne property and crawling along the ground.

CCTV footage shows the thief sliding around on his stomach inside the Brighton home on January 16 after forcefully gaining entry.

Dressed in all black, including a pair of dark sunglasses, the mystery man can be seen going to ground in a bid to evade detection, edging his way slowly from room to room at the North Road address.

But after obtaining a safe from one of the rooms he seems to forget his previous cautious movements and dashes through the main room, wheeling the safe in the process.

After being disrupted by a neighbour, the man fled the property over a garden fence, leaving empty-handed.
