Woman facing amputations after doctor's 'bad advice' before trip to Cambodia
An Australian woman has become acutely ill and is facing amputations after claiming to have received poor doctor's advice ahead of travelling to Cambodia.
Shelley Hill, from Byron Bay in NSW, went to Cambodia to work as a volunteer at an elephant sanctuary in Mondulkiri, a journey she had "dreamed of for a long time".
Before leaving, Ms Hill asked a doctor's advice on the necessary vaccinations and said she was advised against anti-malarial medications because it was a dry season.
"Upon returning from her trip, Shelley began to feel very unwell," Ms Hill's friend Mel Wilson wrote on a GoFundMe page.
"She attended the GP, underwent a blood test and was diagnosed with the most severe strain [of] Malaria."
Ms Wilson said the 46-year-old was taken to hospital and admitted to the intensive care unit where she suffered multi organ failure.

Ms Hill was then put on life support and dialysis. She suffered extreme necrosis to her hands and feet.
"She has since made a small improvement and has been taken off life support and is breathing unsupported," Ms Wilson said.
"She remains on daily dialysis and faces a very long recovery.
"Best case scenario she will require amputation of multiple digits."
Ms Wilson told news.com.au her friend requires daily dialysis for her kidneys and liver and is waiting to see a vascular surgeon in regards to amputation.
The GoFundMe page has raised over $40,000 in just five days for medical expenses.
