Girl in coma after suffering electric shock doing ordinary task

The everyday task of turning off a tap has left 11-year-old Denishar Parker on life support in hospital.

The young Perth girl is in a coma at Princess Margaret Hospital after suffering a huge electric shock from an outdoor tap in her family's front yard.

Her mother, Lacey Parker, who was also shocked, is by her side and has asked Perth to pray for her daughter.

"She's too young to have to go through something like that," Ms Parker said.

Denishar's was trying to turn off the garden hose about 9pm on Saturday night when she was shocked.

Her mother heard her cries and came to help and was also shocked.

"The hose has just gripped my baby's body and just taken her down and just fried her," she said.

"And I've gone around 'cos she's screaming and it's dropped me.

"How does this happen, how, how does it happen?"

Neighbour Merv Brown, who lives two doors down came to help.

He found Denishar unconscious, her heart had stopped.

Her mother was in a bad way next to her and both were drenched in water.

"I've attempted to turn the water off from the tap, it gave me a really big shock," Mr Brown said.

Paramedics quickly arrived and Ms Parker said she was able to scream, but couldn't move.

"Me and my daughter were laying there screaming for them to stop this energy going through us.

"And I felt my body going away and I'm like: 'I'm a mother of seven kids, I cant go'."

How the incident could have happened, including whether the safety switch was in working order, is now under investigation.

Sister Jeanette Parker said: "I want someone to pay for what my sister is going through right now."

"I just want everyone to pray for her and think for the best that she's gonna pull through."

The Department of Housing said: "This is a sad situation and our thoughts are with the family of the young girl".

"The Department of Communities (Housing) is awaiting further information from The Office of Energy Safety regarding the incident."

Ms Parker said she'd been calling the department for weeks because she could smell burning wires and had called again on Saturday when the power had tripped.

She says she was told an electrician would be out either on Saturday or Sunday.

Doctors don't know whether Denishar will recover, but her family say she is a fighter.
