A white van has become battered and cracked following the alleged terrifying ordeal.

Police say the driver, a 19-year-old Carrara man, had been holding his girlfriend against her will.

They were driving along Pappas Way, Carrara, around 6pm Saturday when police say she threw herself from the van as it slowed, trying desperately to escape.

She then flagged down a passing motorist, a 40-year-old mother with her little boy in the back.

They tried to drive off, but didn't get far when the man allegedly used his van to ram the second vehicle off the road.

The alleged victim was not physically injured, however her family is yet to hear from her, desperate to know if she is safe.
