Parents reveal chilling last text from top doctor who has vanished

The parents of a missing US doctor have shared the last text message they received from their son before his disappearance.

Timothy Cunningham, an epidemiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, left work on February 12 complaining of feeling unwell.

The 35-year-old did not show up for work the following two days, nor did he contact his family, and has been missing ever since, AOL reported.

His parents, Terrell and Tia-Juana Cunningham, drove from Maryland to Georgia to look for their son.

His mother said the last text she received from Timothy was while she was asleep at 5.21am on the day he was last seen.

"Are you awake?" she said the text read.

Ms Cunningham did not get a chance to respond to the message before her son vanished.

When the parents arrived at Timothy's Atlanta home to look for him, they found his phone, keys, wallet, car and dog.

"Tim never leaves [his dog] Beau unattended," Mr Cunningham, 60, told NBC.

"He just doesn't do it."

According to the CDC, the respected doctor worked as a commander in the US Public Health Service and has responded to both the Ebola virus and the Zika virus outbreaks.

Timothy's family and the local police are offering a $10,000 reward for tips regarding the case.
