Woman's nasty shock after malfunctioning ATM gives her $18k

An American woman thought she had hit the jackpot after an ATM began malfunctioning, dispensing $100 bills instead of $5.

But now Wichita woman Christina Ochoa faces a hefty lawsuit after making multiple withdrawals from the Central National Bank - to the tune of $14,000 plus interest.

According to The Wichita Eagle, Ms Ochoa reportedly made more than 50 withdrawals over a five-day period in January, several of which were made in the middle of the night.

Her mother, who allegedly drove her to the bank on several occasions, has also been named in the civil case.

Instead of the $1892 that Ms Ochoa should have been given if the dispenser wasn't malfunctioning, she actually received approximately $17,997, the bank claims.

Ms Ochoa told The Wichita Eagle that she had done "nothing wrong" and had made multiple withdrawals from the ATM because she wanted to create a "money cake" as a gift for a friend.

After Ms Ochoa refused to pay back the money she reportedly owed, the Central National Bank froze the money in her account and is now trying to seize two cars allegedly bought using a down payment funded by the ATM withdrawals.

Ms Ochoa insisted to The Wichita Eagle that the cars had been paid for with money from a car wreck settlement and a student loan.
