Woman's body found at Sydney beach
A woman's body has been found at a beach in Sydney's east with two rescue helicopters scouring the water for a man who may also be missing.
A passerby found the woman's body, aged in her 40s, at the northern end of Maroubra beach early on Friday morning.
Investigators believe a man may also be missing after women's and men's clothing was found on the beach nearby, police said on Friday.
Police and lifeguards are searching the area, but conditions are hazardous and Maroubra beach remains closed due to dangerous surf conditions.
A PolAir and Westpac Life Saver Rescue helicopter have also joined the search.
The woman's death is not being treated as suspicious and she is yet to be formally identified.
A year ago at the same beach, the body of a 23-year-old woman was found washed up on the sand with the body her 26-year-old male companion found three days later after the couple drowned during an evening swim.
