Teacher fired after video shows him body slamming student
A substitute teacher in the US has been fired after a video showing him body slamming a student was posted online.
Shocking footage of 12-year-old Jose Escudero being flung to the floor was uploaded to Facebook on Friday by the boy's outraged mother following a row over a box of chocolates on Valentine's Day.
Jose says the substitute teacher at Western Guilford Middle School in North Carolina confiscated the chocolates during class and an altercation ensued when he approached the teacher for them at the end of the class, US television station WGHP reported.
Jose says he took the chocolates but the teacher tried grabbing them back. When he failed to get them, Jose claims the teacher pinned him against the wall before slamming him to the ground.
Jose says he has been left covered in bruises following the incident.
Guilford County Schools spokeswoman Tina Firesheets said the teacher's contract with Guilford County Schools district had been terminated while Chief of Staff Nora Carr said that type of behaviour would not be tolerated.
“This kind of behaviour toward a student is disturbing and unacceptable. We reported the behavior to law enforcement and will no longer employ this person as a substitute teacher or in any other GCS position," she said.
Jose and his family say they plan to take legal action against the school and the substitute teacher.
