Dad finds heartbreaking texts daughter sent to grandfather who died five years ago
A father has discovered heartbreaking text messages that his daughter had been sending to her grandfather – five years after he passed away.
When radio presenter James O’Brien gave his disconnected old iPhone to his nine-year-old daughter, he never imagined what she’d use it for.
"My youngest has had my old phone for a couple of years. Just for games, which I download for her before disconnecting the internet,” the UK father wrote on Twitter.
"Still has my old contacts though & it turns out she’s been messaging my dad, who died 5 years ago.

Mr O’Brien shared a screenshot of the messages, both undelivered, that provides their adored grandfather with an update on their lives.
"I love you grandad have a great time in heaven I hope you meet Jesus and I hope you had an amazing life. I absolutely love you and my life could not have been this amazing without you,” one message sent in June reads.
Almost seven months later, the daughter gave another update.
“I’m nearly 10 and Elizabeth is 12! She loved your present by the way your present was your love,” she wrote.
More than 28,000 people have since retweeted the messages, with many users admitting they too got a little choked up.
“I'm sure that wherever he is, he is seeing those messages and having a big beaming smile,” one man replied.
“That’s just so beautiful. Also a sign you’ve done good! Gosh, that’s something else,” another added.
