Clues reveal longstanding iPhone feature be may gone for good

One longstanding iPhone feature that Apple has already partially ditched may be gone for good.

The tech giant has recently informed developers that from April onwards all new apps submitted to the App Store must support iPhone X's ultra HD display.

Given that the iPhone X is Apple's only phone that no longer possesses the solid 'home button', these latest instructions suggest future devices will follow suit.

The home button is the physical feature below the screen used to unlock the device and exit or switch between apps.

Every developer must make sure its app updates now fit on an edge-to-edge, buttonless screen.

The new instructions suggest the tech giant's newest iPhone, expected to be released sometime in September, will have notched screens similar to the iPhone X.

The buttonless iPhone rumours come just two weeks after the company informed its suppliers that it was cutting iPhone production targets in half.

It has also been rumoured that the iPhone X will be discontinued after the next generation of iPhones are revealed.

Apple earlier this month posted the biggest quarterly profit of all time despite a fall in iPhone sales.
