Truck sends car spinning in failed overtake - but which driver is at fault?

The moment a truck sends a car spinning during a failed overtake on a Queensland highway has divided opinion online.

Dashcam footage from Port of Brisbane Motorway on February 13 shows a vehicle pass a truck on the outside lane before appearing to move into the inside lane to overtake it.

But as the driver appears to try and move over, the truck clips the rear of the car and sends it spiralling out of control before slamming into the divider and facing the wrong way.

The video was shared to the Facebook page Dash Cam Owners Australia on Saturday and garnered hundreds of comments defending both drivers.

"I cannot believe the comments blaming the truck driver... the car driver clearly did not check rear vision mirror," one user commented.

"The car changed lanes when it was not safe to do so just because you have your indicator on does not give you right of way," another wrote.

"The dash cam driver was in their lane doing everything legally and got hit by a truck," another said in defence of the car driver.

Users failed to agree whether the car was attempting to move into the right lane or was clipped whilst in the left lane.

The group's administration waded in on the debate, suggesting if the roles were reversed, the blame would lie with just one of the drivers.

"I'm confident if the roles were reversed here, everyone would be blaming the car for sitting in the right hand lane," they wrote.
