Couple reveal frightening moment storm savaged wedding
A couple have described the frightening moment a savage storm hit Geelong in Victoria and almost ruined their wedding.
Adam and Amber had just exchanged vows at The Pier Restaurant when wild winds and torrential rain tore part of the roof off.
They say rain on your wedding day is good luck, but for the Segunas it was nearly game over. The couple were forced to evacuate their own wedding after it was hit by the freak storm.
"Very eventful, if it was going to happen to anyone it was going to happen to us," Mrs Seguna said.
The couple had waited five years to tie the knot, putting their nuptials on hold to start a family. Like any bride, Mrs Seguna had all the details covered, but mother nature had her own plans.
"I checked the weather app all throughout the week and it said a little bit of rain and I thought 'oh that's alright'," she said.
The couple managed to make it through their ceremony but as their 130 guests enjoyed cocktails, the weather took a sudden turn.
Blue skies turned grey and pellets of hail and sheets of rain began to lash the venue.
"As we were standing on the terrace we could literally feel the terrace moving," Mrs Seguna said.
"The roof peeled off like a sardine can and all the glass windows shattered on the deck," Mr Seguna said.
The party was evacuated from the venue as emergency crews scrambled to stop the flooding. But one of the groomsmen scrambled too, arranging to continue the celebrations at a nearby restaurant
The owners of the function centre estimate the damage bill will exceed $300,000. They hope it will be covered by insurance but regardless, have offered to refund the cost of the Seguna's wedding.
"If we can survive that day, we can survive marriage," Mrs Seguna said.
