WATCH: Fishermen rescued after marlin causes boat to sink

Five fishermen have been filmed being rescued off the coast of Florida after a huge marlin caused their boat to sink on Saturday morning.

One of the men aboard the 31-foot vessel was reeling in a marlin at the time of incident, and said the large fish was tugging so hard on the line that the boat began taking on water.

The local Coast Guard confirmed it received a call at 9.24am from the distressed group who reported the rapidly sinking vessel while more than six kilometres from shore.

Luckily for the fishermen, help arrived quickly after a passing catamaran spotted the group in the water next to the sinking hull.

Incredible vision taken by one of the passengers on the Palm Breeze catamaran shows the moment they found the men and plucked them to safety.

Crew member Elena Markel said the boat had almost disappeared entirely when they arrived on the scene.

"I see something in the water, five red things, and I started screaming, 'Charlie, what is that?'" Ms Markel told local news station CBS12.

Once out of the water, the captain and crew of the Palm Breeze helped to transfer the men to the Coast Guard boat.

Ms Markel said she was thankful they were in the right place at the right time.

"I don't think I did something phenomenal, because I did what everyone is supposed to do," Markel said.

The men were in the water for about half an hour before they were rescued and luckily managed to escape without injury.
