'Darkest time in my life': Woman almost killed by Tinder date shares photos of horrific injuries

A young NSW doctor, who was stabbed repeatedly by her Tinder date before he poured petrol on her as he tried to set her alight, has released photos of her horrific injuries from the attack.

Angela Jay, 29, believes it was a "miracle" that kept her alive after she was brutally set upon by Paul Lambert, 36, after he broke into her Port Macquarie home in November 2016.

Lambert, a 36-year-old insurance manager, had developed an obsession with Dr Jay after matching with her on dating app Tinder.

After Dr Jay ended their six-week relationship, Paul’s intense and erratic behaviour escalated out of control.

He broke into her home and hid inside her wardrobe before lunging at her with a knife, stabbing her 11 times before he poured petrol on her as he tried to set her alight.

She miraculously survived the attack, and Lambert was subsequently killed in a police chase.

Now, Dr Jay has released the confronting images, which were taken just days after she was almost murdered by her crazed stalker.

"The gruelling Kokoda Track seems such an impossible feat," she wrote on Facebook.

"[But] then I remember that my legs can do ANYTHING! Despite 11 stab wounds and losing a huge amount of blood, they found the strength to lift me off the ground and RUN! They carried me to freedom... they gave me my life... they gave me a second chance.

"My legs are so STRONG and with them I will take on Kokoda. Feeling grateful every step of the way."

Dr Jay is raising money for White Ribbon Day by taking part in a hike of the Kokoda Track.

"These photos were taken days after I was almost murdered. It is with courage I share them with you. Looking at them still shakes me to the core and reminds me of the darkest time in my life," she finished.

Speaking with Sunday Night in May last year, Dr Jay described the horrific ordeal.

“I didn't actually feel him stabbing me but I could see the blood when I looked down and I just thought in my head, ‘he is actually stabbing me, he is going to actually kill me’,” she said. “I was so scared and I felt so alone."

“I can’t even explain the horror you feel when you know that somebody is trying to set you on fire,” she said, crying at the painful memories.

Lambert died after a police chase ended with him being shot multiple times on the night of the attack.

Dr Jay will walk the 96km Papua New Guinea trail in the footsteps of Australia’s fallen World War II soldiers in April.
