Toddler on life support after being found face down in family pool

A two-year-old Brisbane girl remains fighting for life in hospital three days after she was found facedown in the family swimming pool.

Little Aliyana Caplin is still on life support after her mother found her unconscious in the water in their backyard at the Ipswich suburb of Raceview, on Wednesday afternoon.

The pool gate had been unlocked and left open to allow the family’s dogs to cool off during the warm weather, when tragedy struck.

The toddler was rushed to Brisbane’s Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital, where she has been fighting for life since.

Aliyana has been a fighter since birth, having previously had three brain surgeries after suffering a series of fits since she was born. The family is now rocked by the latest tragedy in her short life.

Aliyana's grandfather Brian Caplin, who owns the Raceview home, told the Queensland Times he didn't know if the little girl would recover.

"There is not much more they can do. And all she can do is fight.”

"She might make it. She might not."
