Commonwealth Games staff under fire for 'Invasion Day' barbecue invite

Gold Coast Commonwealth Games staff have come under fire over invitations which reportedly call for staff to take part in an 'Australia Day/ Invasion Day' barbecue.

The invitation is for a pub quiz at the Athlete’s Village on Thursday.

It’s not a Games sanctioned event, but use of the term 'Invasion Day' has been criticised as political correctness gone mad.

Instead the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games Corporation argues it was simply a "well-intentioned attempt by a staff member to acknowledge the differing sentiment surrounding Australia Day."

But, deputy LNP leader Tim Mander labelled it “totally inappropriate”.
