Tradie accused of throwing hammer at driver in terrifying road rage attack

A tradie is in custody after he was filmed appearing to attack an autistic man with a hammer in a terrifying road rage attack south of Brisbane.

The video, shot in Waterford West, shows the frantic encounter between the pair on Lavender Street on Thursday about 5pm.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said the pair had engaged in an argument prior to the incident before the tradie, a 27-year-old Yarrabilba man, tried to take the other man’s car keys and punched him in the face.

In the vision, the autistic man, 24, remains trapped in his car, cornered in a cul-de-sac.

The tradie appears to reach through a rear door and tries to drag him out.

“Help, help, help,” the victim can be heard screaming.

As the tradie returns to his ute, the victim alleges he was told he was “f***ing dead”. At this point he claims he was “terrified” for his life.

He said he tried to talk the man down from attacking him.

"I literally said ‘dude, I have aspergers, autistic aspergers. Mate, I do not want to fight you’," the man said.

The 24-year-old victim managed to escape by driving off, but not before the tradie allegedly threw a hammer at his car.

The victim, who wishes to keep his name anonymous, said he was “bleeding everywhere” and felt dizzy following the encounter.

Concerned resident Adele Semyraha said the tradie was “just raging mad” and was “smashing” the autistic man through the window.

Following the incident, mum Tammy Grofski claims she was the next target while she was holding her baby.

“(He) told me to shut up or he'll come over here and punch my head in as well,” she said.

But police eventually caught up with the enraged driver around the corner. Witnesses said he tried to flee on foot down an alleyway. He was still armed with his hammer.

He was eventually arrested and remains in custody but is yet to be charged.
