Shocking CCTV footage shows the moment a Brisbane student filling up his vehicle at a petrol station became the victim of an attempted carjacking.

Thomas Ellis had pulled into a Forestdale service station when he was allegedly threatened with an iron bar.

Moments earlier, the alleged offenders had crashed a stolen car during a joyride, leaving the scene after injuring an innocent motorist.

At the service station, one alleged offender can be seen waving an iron bar at Ellis, 20, and trying to snatch his car keys.

Refusing, Thomas runs into the service station with the gang still trying to attack him.

"He tried to box me in near the door, trap me to get my car keys," Thomas said of one offender.

Thomas managed to get inside and the trio approached another customer, who refused them a lift to the train station.

Before the carjacking attempt the allegedly stolen red car the trio had been in crossed onto the wrong side of a busy road, slamming into Joseph King's ute at 80 km/h.

"Loud, is all I can describe it as. Loud," he said.

His ute was written off, and he was left with whiplash - but the driver and passengers got straight out of the crashed car and headed towards the service station without checking to see if Joseph was injured.

The car the trio was joyriding in was allegedly stolen from a unit block at Daisy Hill around 2:30am on Tuesday morning.

"It's rubbish, people work hard for what they've got and they just try to take it," Thomas Ellis said.

"It's just wrong."

The attempted carjackers are yet to be caught by police.
