Mystery surrounds death of young bungee jumper after her equipment is found intact

Mystery surrounds a freak bungee jump accident that claimed the life of a young nurse in the US.

Ciaro Romero, 20, died on January 4 after she leapt 21 metres from a platform inside West Colorado recreation centre, Get Air.

What went so fatally wrong now remains the subject of a major investigation.

The leap first requires participants, using a harness connected to a rope, to climb up a silo tower before transferring to a wooden platform and jumping down another tower.

Jumpers are supposed to fall for about six metres before the bungee device lowers them to the ground.

Investigators now say the device at the centre of the jump was in fact functioning properly.

"This inspection involved testing which subjected the device to various loading profiles across a range of weights, where the velocity and force were recorded in simulated descents," according to a statement from the company published by the Sentinel.

“The inspection and testing determined that the device, webbing and triple-locking carabiner were found to be intact, and functioning normally, with no apparent damage,” the company said.

Investigators have now turned their attention to eye-witnesses in an effort to understand how Ms Romero plunged to her death.

Get Air issued a statement saying they feel deep sorrow for Ms Romero’s Family and friends.

"We are fully co-operating with the Grand Junction Police Department, the Occupational Health and Safety Administration and Colorado State regulatory agencies in their investigations of the incident. We will have no further comment regarding this investigation or incident," the statement said.
