Teen responsible for Schoolies one-punch attack laughs leaving court

A Gold Coast man laughed and took selfies as he walked free from court after pleading guilty to a one punch assault during schoolies.

Caleb Maraku, 19, was sentenced to 12 months probation after pleading guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm.

Maraku also pleaded guilty to breaching a banning order, which prohibited him from being in Surfers Paradise, where the attack occurred.

He was also ordered to pay his victim $361 in compensation.

Footage of Maraku leaving court shows him laughing and asking his partner to "take a picture" as he walked free.

The one-punch attack happened at about 3am on November 27 when a 19-year-old man was knocked unconscious and hospitalised. He had cuts to his head, broken teeth and bruising.

No conviction was recorded for Maraku.
