Ice cream manufacturer issues nationwide recall due to metal fragments fear

A leading South Australian ice cream manufacturer has issued a nationwide recall of several leading products due to contamination fears.

Golden North has been forced to call back nine products sold in leading supermarkets, including Coles and Woolworths, after a consumer found metal fragments inside one of their products.

SA Health’s Director Food and Controlled Drugs, Dr Fay Jenkins, said the recall was a precautionary measure and there had been no reports of harm or injury.

“Metal fragments can be potentially dangerous and cause injury if ingested,” Dr Jenkins said in a statement on Friday.

“Golden North is investigating the issue at its Laura production facility and is working with the regulator Dairysafe to address any issues.

The company, alongside SA Health and Food Standards Australia-New Zealand, are working to reduce the potential threat to its customers.

“The recall includes some Golden North branded products and others it manufactures, which are sold under different labels.”
