Man accused of raping four women he met on Tinder a 'high-risk offender', court hears
A Melbourne triathlete who is accused of raping four women he met via the dating app Tinder has lost a bid for freedom.
Glenn Dylan Hartland applied for bail on Monday, but a magistrate agreed that he would pose a risk to the community if released.
When he was charged with five counts of rape and ordered by the court to leave the women alone, they thought their hell was over.
But last month the 43-year-old spotted one of his alleged victims as she walked down a street in Prahran.
Instead of obeying his bail conditions, he did a U-turn and followed her, allegedly screaming from his van: "there's no point hiding, you're a liar."
When questioned by police, Hartland accused detectives of fabricating his rape charges.
During his bail application, his lawyer tried to paint a picture of a God-fearing church volunteer who'd been assaulted and threatened by other prisoners.
In denying bail, the magistrate noted that despite having no prior convictions, police regarded the unemployed 43-year-old as a "high-risk offender."
Hartland has been moved into a protected unit away from other prisoners until he reappears in court later this month.
