Tributes pour in for 'good bloke' young dad who died after one-punch attack

A man who was hit in the head in a one-punch attack in the early hours of New Year's Day has died in hospital, with charges now upgraded against the man police hold responsible.

George Joseph Habkouk, 49, appeared at Wyong Local Court on Tuesday, charged with the single-punch incident that occurred at The Lakes Hotel at the Entrance in NSW on Monday.

Father Haydn Butcher, 30, fell to the ground, hit his head on the concrete and lost consciousness.

He was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition but died on Tuesday afternoon with his parents and 18 month old daughter by his side.

A few hours later with police upgraded the charges against Habkouk.

He now faces the charge of assault causing death and is expected to next appear at Wyong Local Court on January 8.

After the news of his death, friends of Mr Butcher posted tributes to social media.

"So sad you were one of the nicest dudes," one person wrote.

Another said: "R.I.P thoughts are with your family. Good bloke too."
