Woman's shock over six-figure petrol bill

Herds of motorists can often be found queueing outside service stations that are offering the cheapest litre of petrol.

But drivers will most likely be avoiding one Canberra servo after a female driver was charged over $200,000 for a full tank.

Tina Tian, from Gunghalin, filled up at Costco service station in Majura Park on December 19, but it was only three days later that she noticed the gaping deficit in her finances, Fairfax Media reported.

"I'm in big trouble now, because I use my credit card for most things I pay for, but now I can't," Ms Tian said.

Two weeks later she has yet to receive an explanation from the wholesaler for the mishap.

"They should have tried to solve the problem as soon as possible, but a [Costco] manager told me they would need another couple of weeks to solve it," she said.

After contacting the company while visiting family on the Gold Coast over the festive period, she was told to take a two-hour round trip to Brisbane to rectify the problem.

On arrival, she was told Canberra transactions were not accessible from Brisbane.

A spokeswoman for Costco revealed in a statement that the company had been in touch with Ms Tian and were looking to resolve the issue.

"We have been in contact with the member about the incident and are working to rectify it for them," she said.
