Hotel cleaner caught on hidden camera cleaning mugs with toilet brush
A cleaner at a luxury hotel has been caught on camera washing mugs with a dirty toilet brush.
Undercover footage filmed at the five-star Kempinski Hotel in Harbin, northern China, shows a female cleaner scrubbing mugs and glasses inside a room's ensuite with a toilet brush before using it to clean the inside of the toilet.
In the seven minute clip posted on the Chinese site Pear Video, the woman can also be seen drying the mugs with guests' bath towels.
The video begins with the cleaner ferociously scrubbing the sink with the same brush.
At one point the woman's colleague tells the undercover journalist posing as a cleaner not to worry about sterilizing the cups.
The colleague also told the journalist that all staff cleaned the bathrooms in the same manner but "never talk about it".
Prices for a room at the hotel begin at $550 for a single night, The Independent reported.
Kempinski Hotels said in a statement that it deeply regrets the behaviour of the employees and the hotel has taken additional steps to make sure employees maintain “strictest standards of hygiene”.
