Casino offers woman steak dinner instead of multi-million dollar win

Katrina Bookman thought she had done what many can only dream of - win an almost $56 million jackpot on a poker machine.

However, Ms Bookman knew something was instantly wrong when it didn't print out her winning voucher, Little Things reports.

“It just had a big screen saying that I won 42.9 million,” she explained. “I just totally got numb and froze.”

Her joy didn't last very long though after employees at the casino came up to her and said she hadn't actually won that much money, claiming the machine had "malfunctioned".

The New York State Gaming Commission investigated the machine and found that she actually did win something - $2.95.

Resorts World spokesman Dan Bank apologised at the time and told CNN that "casino personnel were able to determine that the figure displayed on the penny slot was the result of an obvious malfunction - a fact later confirmed by the New York State Gaming Commission."

To soften the blow, the casino offered Ms Bookman a steak dinner to make it up to her.

“I feel very robbed!” she said.

According to CBS New York, the machine she was playing had a maximum payout of $8,500.
