Wife lives with dead husband for weeks in WA home as she 'couldn't accept his death'

A woman in Western Australia has been discovered living with her dead husband because she couldn't accept his death.

Police made the discovery at the 58-year-old woman's Greenfields home with his body lying in the hallway on Wednesday and it is thought she could have kept his decomposing body at the address for up to eight weeks.

The woman is believed to be suffering from mental illness and was taken to the Peel Health Campus for assessment following a police interview, the Mandurah Mail reported.

The 56-year-old's death is not being treated as suspicious and was believed to have been suffering from serious health conditions.

It is believed the alarm was raised when the woman confided in a neighbour after she eventually came to the terms with her partner's death.

The home was cordoned off on Thursday with detectives and police forensic investigators at the scene, but the property has since been released with a bio-hazard warning on it.

The body's decomposition had been a result of recent hot weather, police believe.

Police are awaiting the results of the postmortem on Friday to reveal how long the man had been dead.

There have been no charges laid in connection with the death.
