Dad shaves his head after daughter with alopecia says she doesn't love herself

A doting dad has captured hearts around the globe after shaving his head to prove to his little girl, who suffers from alopecia, that hair is not important.

Captured in a heartwarming video, the gesture came after the man's daughter Riley, admitted to her parents she didn't love herself because she was bald.

Her father Dave took it upon himself to grab the clippers and go bald just like his daughter, to prove to her that she is beautiful and loved despite having no hair.

In the clip, shared to the Love What Matters Facebook page on Monday, Riley can be seen lighting up with happiness watching her hero dad shave off his locks.

Leading up to the shave, Dave can be seen in the video telling Riley: "You're a very special girl. Do you know that? Do you know how special you are? ... Hair doesn't matter".

"I know you would like to have hair ... but I love you the same no matter what. And so does Mommy. And so does everybody else," Dave tells his daughter while cuddling her close to his chest.

"It's just hair, kiddo. It doesn't matter," he adds.

In sharing the video, Dave's wife Chelsea wrote that she was "so in love" with her husband.

"I was a bit taken aback and said [to Riley], 'What do you mean you don't love yourself?' To which she uttered my worst fear, 'I don't love myself because I don't have hair," Chelsea wrote.

"Fast forward to later that night when we got home. Dave wanted to talk to her about what she had said ... this was the result."
