Driver charged after allegedly hitting dog walkers, killing a man

A man has been charged after allegedly hitting a couple walking their dog, seriously injuring one of them and killing the other east of Melbourne.

Victoria Police said a 58-year-old man and a woman, 68, were walking along Mobulk-Seville Road, Seville on Saturday about 1pm when they were hit by a car.

The man was treated at the scene but died before he could be transported to hospital. The woman was airlifted to hospital when she remains.

A 27-year-old Monbulk man was charged with one count of dangerous driving causing death and one count of dangerous driving causing serious injury.

The man will face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

The road toll for Victoria currently stands at 232 for 2017, compared to 272 at the same time last year.
