Five injured in horror Melbourne crash
A 30-year-old man was trapped for an hour after a car of five youths crashed into a brick wall in Melbourne.
The man was finally freed by emergency crews and taken to hospital with serious injuries, along with a 21-year-old male driver from Heathmont and three female teenagers who were seated in the rear.
The Ford Escape left the road and crashed into the wall at the intersection of Mitcham and Canterbury roads at Vermont on Saturday about 12.15am.
Police are investigating the crash and if drugs and alcohol were involved.
Victoria Police Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Thomas said the car went through an intersection with a "green through light with a red arrow". He added witnesses had told police the car was travelling "very fast".
"He's in the left-turn lane and just gone straight ahead," Det Snr Sgt Thomas said.
"If you're familiar with that intersection there are two left-turn lanes. In the right-hand one he's decided to go straight ahead and obviously there's no road for him to drive on."
He said the 21-year-old driver was driving his dad's car.
The occupants in the back of the car included a 16-year-old Brookville girl, as well as a 17-year-old girl and a 19-year-old woman, both from Melton.
