Mum in heartbreaking photo dies from brain aneurysm suffered days after giving birth

A mother-of-three, who was pictured in a heartbreaking photo alongside her new-born baby daughter after she suffered a brain aneurysm, has died.

Arlene Padawag-Cosme had been in an induced coma ever since she collapsed in her home on November 20, four days after giving birth.

An image of the unconscious mother laying next to little Grayan, who was born without complication, in Auckland City Hospital quickly went viral after being shared online.

Her devastated family announced that Ms Padawag-Cosme had lost her fight.

“The fight is over,” they said.

“With deep grief, we are so sad to announce the passing of our dear sister Arlene at 7pm on 5 December 2017. She is now in peace with the Lord Almighty.

“Thank you so much for the love and prayers that you shared with us.”

In the days before her death, little Grayan was baptised in hospital near her mother's bedside.

More than $23,000 has since been raised to help her husband Rayan Cosme, who was filmed serenading his wife in the days before her death.

Donations continued to flood in alongside tributes and prayers for the grieving family.

"I will miss you so much Arlene, one of the most compassionate, calm and caring nurses," one donor wrote.

"Nothing was ever too much trouble when I would ask you for help at work. Praying for your husband and 3 beautiful girls at this most difficult time.

"RIP, I will never forget you."
