Liberal MP Tim Wilson proposes to partner in parliament during same-sex marriage debate

Liberal MP Tim Wilson has proposed to his partner on the floor of federal parliament.

The outspoken advocate for same-sex marriage used debate on the marriage equality bill to ask his partner Ryan to marry him in Canberra on Monday.

Tim's partner, Ryan Bolger, duly obliged, answering with a definitive "yes".

The teary-eyed Liberal MP also made a very personal speech regarding the legislation, revealing he discovered he was gay at 12 before contemplating coming out at 18.

"If I could go back and tell that scared 18-year-old kid he would be standing here speaking... he wouldn't believe me," he said in parliament.
