Woman's emotional reunion with dogs that helped her survive in the wild

A woman recovering in hospital after two gruelling days lost in the woods has been reunited with the two dogs that helped her survive.

Annette Poitras had been missing since Monday, when took three dogs for a walk in a rugged area of Coquitlam, not far from her home in British Colombia, Canada.

Ms Poitras, who wasn't wearing suitable footwear, slipped over and injured herself during the walk, leaving her unable to make it out of the woods on her own.

About 300 volunteer searchers from across the province joined in the search for the dog walker before eventually discovering her about 11am Wednesday (local time).

"You just can't imagine what it feels like," her husband, Marcel Poitras said after his wife was found.

"I've had some dark days here. I woke up this morning and I just knew it, I knew she was coming home today."

A helicopter was brought in to lift Poitras and the dogs, a boxer named Roxy, a collie named Chloe and a puggle named Bubba from the marshy basin where they were found.

While she's still recovering from the physical exhaustion, nothing was going to stop Poitras from being reunited with the dogs that helped save her life.

Janet Kilberg, who owns Roxy, brought the big pooch in to visit Ms Poitras, with photos showing the pair sharing a cuddle on her hospital bed.

“She’s in a good mental state, she’s quite happy,” Mr Poitras added.

“She’s ready to go but unfortunately that’s not going to happen for a little while yet.”

The dogs were all found in good condition.
