'I can barely breathe': Woman 'slowly suffocating' in her own faeces

A British woman has been left fighting for her life after a routine bowel operation has left her 'drowning in her own faeces'.

Kelly Yeoman, 34, from Bristol, has spent the last 11 weeks at Southmead Hospital, where she has been coughing up excrement and struggling to breathe during her frightening ordeal.

An X-ray image taken from hospital shows her organs masked by a sea of human waste as her condition continues to deteriorate.

Ms Yeoman took to Facebook to share the image and reveal the alarming nature of her condition saying: "It's all in my chest too, my diaphragm and lungs are so high up I can barely breathe."

Now Ms Yeoman's worried friends are rallying round her with a GoFundMe page in a bid to get her the surgery she needs after claiming she "won't be coming home for Christmas" as things stand.

Her friends want to move her to St Mark's Hospital in London, where she can receive specialist care as a private patient.

Kate Rankin, the creator of Ms Yeoman's fundraising page, claims a "slip of the scalpel during a minor surgical procedure" damaged her bowel and Ms Yeoman desperately needs surgery to rectify the problem.

"For ten long weeks, Kelly has been lying in her hospital bed, on a cocktail of the strongest painkillers, being subjected to a series of increasingly humiliating and painful procedures, while nobody seems able to find a solution," she wrote online.

"At any moment, her bowel could perforate, which (if she is lucky enough to survive the complications) will result in a colostomy bag for the rest of her life."

Ms Yeoman, described as "lovely, bright and caring" by her friends, has so far drawn $3,000 worth of donations as her friend's search for a further $14,500 she needs for her life-saving procedure.

A Southmead Hospital spokeswoman told The Mirror they were committed to the care of Ms Yeoman.

"We have been in regular contact with Ms Yeoman regarding her care following a surgical procedure that was carried out elsewhere," she said.

"Staff on the ward have developed a good relationship with Ms Yeoman and have ensured that any concerns are addressed."
