A gay teacher has been fired from a Christian school in Waikiki, south of Perth.

Craig Campbell was removed from South Coast Baptist College's work roster after revealing he was in a same-sex relationship.

He had been working there for three years and had attended the school himself as a student.

His sacking came after a suggestive photo posted on social media was noticed by students.

The school's principal said he was loved and respected by students and staff but there was an inconsistency between his belief on marriage and the college's.

“Young people are naturally inquisitive,” college principal Des Mitchell said, The West Australian reported.

“The image he posted created interest in his personal life, including his sexuality.

"I shared with him that, at present, there is an inconsistency with his beliefs on sexuality and the college’s beliefs.”

It's understood he declared his relationship to senior colleagues after the social media image came to light.
