David Cassidy, star of The Partridge Family, dead at 67

Former star of The Partridge Family and 1970s teenage heartthrob David Cassidy has died at age 67.

His publicist confirmed his death on Wednesday after it was announced the actor and musician was hospitalised over the weekend with multiple organ failure.

"On behalf of the entire Cassidy family, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, our uncle, and our dear brother, David Cassidy. David died surrounded by those he loved, with joy in his heart and free from the pain that had gripped him for so long," Cassidy's publicist JoAnn Geffen said in a statement.

"Thank you for the abundance and support you have shown him these many years."

When he was hospitalised, a source told TMZ it was “looking grim”. The publication said Cassidy was in need of a liver transplant.

The former start of the Partridge Family David Cassidy is in a coma with organ failure.

The 67-year-old revealed earlier this year this year he was battling with dementia, which is a persistent disorder of the mental processes caused by brain disease and marked by memory disorders and personality changes.

The 'Daydreamer' singer took to his website to share a touching message where he thanked his fans for supporting him throughout his career, and for sending "messages of concern and care" during his struggle with the illness.

In March, he wrote: "To the many thousands of people who have supported me over the last 5 decades I send my love. I thank you all sincerely for the support and care you have shown me recently and in the past.
