Film worker fatally gored by bull while on holiday with fiancée in India

A New Zealand-based film worker has been fatally gored by a stray bull in India.

Argentinian national Juan Pablo Lampe, 29, was on holiday with his fiancée in Jaipur when he became trapped between two fighting bulls while the couple were walking in the Walled City on Saturday, The Hindustan Times reports.

One of the bulls struck Mr Lampe with its horn. He was rushed to hospital but did not survive his injuries.

Police said that Mr Lampe planned to marry his partner Paula next month. NewsHub reports this upcoming Sunday was also his 30th birthday.

He had moved from Argentina to Wellington in 2009 and worked at Weta Digital as a senior compositor.

Weta Digital has produced visual effects for a number of Hollywood films including Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Justice League and Deadpool.

Mr Lampe’s friend Julie Freer said he was an active member in Wellington’s Latin community and described him as “the most special friend I’ve ever known”.

"Juan was my best male friend who I fondly referred to as 'my little brother',” she said.

“So many of us were touched in a very special way by the way he lived his life and how all in his presence were enriched through meeting and being friends."

Mr Lampe’s friends and family are holding a tribute to him in Wellington on Wednesday night and plan to erect a park bench in his memory in an area where he used to meditate.

Weta Digital have also organised a video as a tribute to him.

Shiv Bhagwan Gathala, deputy commissioner of Jaipur Municipal Corporation, the city’s council, said stray animals similar to the bulls who killed Mr Lampe, are owned by people who “run illegal dairies” and “leave cows on roads after they stop giving milk”.

He added that Jaipur Municipal Corporation had started a drive on Sunday to control stray animals roaming the streets.
