The unlikely winner of Australian shiraz competition is a $7 bottle

There’s been a shock winner at an Australian wine competition, which is sure to make anyone who enjoys cheap glass of plonk very happy.

Aldi’s shiraz has taken the gold medal in the Great Australian Shiraz Challenge.

It beat more than 200 bottles, including a $375 vintage by Bird in Hand.

It's not the first accolade for the wine that received double gold and the Best Value Shiraz at the Melbourne International Wine Competition earlier this year.
