'I'm still numb': Mum's heartbreaking tribute after girl, 7, dies from pneumonia on family holiday

A Melbourne girl has tragically died within hours of arriving at hospital after she contracted pneumonia while on a family holiday in Western Australia.

Summer Griffiths, seven, was taken to hospital on Sunday after her condition quickly deteriorated from a small cough into a high temperature and erratic breathing.

"Doctors said the bacteria was super aggressive and got into her bloodstream. Eventually her heart gave out," her mother, Ashleigh Griffiths told News Corp.

Summer was placed into an induced coma to try and help her breathe, but it was too late.

Relative Jordan Griffiths said he was "heartbroken".

"Rest In Peace to my little cousin Summer, absolutely heartbroken for my family," he wrote on Facebook.

A GoFundMe page, has been set up by a family friend, with the aim of trying to raise money to bring Summer's body back to Melbourne.

Almost $24,000 has been raised so far.

"Today the most tragic thing happened to one of my best friend's daughter," the page reads.

"I want to help where I can with giving this beautiful young lady the send off she deserves.

"Fly high sweet angle Summer Louise Griffiths. You will be missed by so many."

Ms Griffiths described her daughter as a “bubbly, happy and beautiful girl”, news.com.au reports.

“I’m still a bit numb right now. I honestly can’t believe I’m not getting my baby girl back," she said.

Summer was Ms Griffith’s only child.
