'Cutest thing I've seen': Grandparents' morning ritual for granddaughter goes viral

Two Scottish grandparents have warmed the hearts of the internet after their granddaughter revealed their adorable morning ritual.

Getting up for the daily grind and taking the morning bus or train into work can be daunting for most people but 17-year-old Rio Smith always has reason to smile.

Every morning her grandparents Valerie and Wilson Ovenstone stand outside their house and wave to her as she passes by, The Sun reports.

The teen, who works for her local council, posted a video of her grandfather waving on Twitter and it’s gone viral with more than 166,000 likes and 40,000 re-tweets.

“This is the cutest thing I’ve seen in my life. Grandparents are so so precious,” one person tweeted.

Another Twitter user said they were glad Rio appreciated her grandparents because “not too many people can say their grandparents are still around let alone care this much”.

“Love it if my nan and grandad were still about to wave me off. Cherish the moment mate. Bless ‘em,” another said.

Rio told the Sun she posted the video because she “thought it was sweet” and said her grandparents did it every day for moral support.

“I’d say that they are the most genuine, caring and loving people you’ll ever meet,” she said.
