Amazon slammed over 'Blade Gunner' Oscar Pistorius Halloween costume
Global online seller Amazon has been slammed for selling a tasteless Oscar Pistorious outfit for Halloween.
The green and yellow tank top and shorts costume has the words 'Blade Gunner' emblazoned across the top, a play on his Blade Gunner nickname that references the shooting death of Pistorius' girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in 2013.
The outfit also features boot covers that mimic the double amputee Paralympian runner's prosthetic legs, or "blades".
Amazon gleefully announced on its website that it expected a furore: "This Paralympic runner costume is sure to cause some controversy at your next event."
The promotional picture also includes dark sunglasses and a toy pistol, neither of which are for sale as part of the costume - but the gun clearly references Steenkamp's murder.
It comes after controversy erupted over an Anne Frank Halloween costume being sold on several online websites.
Amazon has released a statement announcing it would no longer be selling the Oscar Pistorius costume.
"All Marketplace sellers must follow our selling guidelines and those who don’t will be subject to action including potential removal of their account," the statement reads.
"The product in question is no longer available.”
