Woman learns her pet dog is alive five months after vet said he was put down

A woman who took her pet dog to the be euthanised by a vet has discovered he is still alive five months on and living with a staff member.

Keri Levy took 15-year-old Ceasar, a Miniature Pinscher, to Briarwood Veterinary Hospital in the US on May 17 with a chronic health condition.

Ms Levy left believing he had been put to sleep and was even called that evening to be told she could come and pick up his collar.

But Ms Levy recently received a tip that Ceasar was alive and living with an employee from the vet clinic.

“This employee wanted to do so out of compassion for the dog and a desire to rehabilitate his health, albeit without the owner’s consent,” police said.

A brief reunion

Ms Levy was briefly reunited with her beloved dog, who she said had lost over four kilograms since she last saw him.

He was euthanised after spending an hour with his owner.

Ms Levy was refunded the money she initially paid for the procedure to put Ceasar to sleep that was never done.

Police are investigating and Briarwood Veterinary Hospital confirmed the staffer who took the dog no longer works there.
