Salim Mehajer investigated over alleged NRMA insurance fraud

Several insurance claims made after crashes involving Salim Mehajer are being investigated by police following his latest collision on Monday, which saw him miss court on assault charges.

7News has learned of multiple NRMA insurance claims on vehicles registered to Mehajer and his companies over the last three years.

Two accidents last year are strikingly similar to Monday's crash near his home.

The first involved a Landcruiser linked to the former deputy mayor hitting another Landcruiser which ran a red light at an intersection.

The second, last December, saw a Mercedes sedan "T-boned" at an intersection near Mehajer's Lidcombe home.

An Insurance Assessment Review found the vehicles were most likely stationary when struck.

"Depending on the types of vehicles involved, how fast they were both going, the condition of the road surface, whether it was wet or dry, you'd leave tyre marks," Forensic and Safety Engineer George Rechnitzer said.

Both cars were taken to the same body shop in Artarmon, with Mehajer confirming The Financial Ombudsman Service ordered the December claim paid.

NRMA Insurance is investigating several claims and has referred them to the police.

Police have confirmed they are investigating the matter.

"The NSW police force has recently received referrals related to reports of fraudulent insurance claims," a NSW police spokesperson said.

"Investigations into these matters are now underway, no further information is available."

Mehajer emphatically denies any wrongdoing amid allegations he staged Monday's crash to claim insurance and avoid his court hearing for assault.
