The McDonald's photo that reveals a massive problem

While McDonald’s is recognised around the world, one thing it's not known for is handing out life advice – but that hasn’t stopped the company from trying.

In an age where the average adult spends nearly three hours staring at their smart phone every day, it’s a familiar sight to see diners more focused on their Instagram story than a real conversation.

Now the fast food giant has made a not-so-subtle attempt at changing that.

Encouraging customers to enjoy each other’s company opposed to their phone’s, McDonald’s has introduced the “family playdate” box where diners are given the option of locking up their device as they enter the restaurant.

"As a popular restaurant destination for families, we have observed that the use of mobile devices during meal times may sometimes get in the way of family bonding," a McDonald's Singapore representative told Channel News Asia.

But unlike their burgers, customers don’t seem to be ‘lovin it’.

A photo taken inside a Singapore McDonald’s shows 100 lockup boxes available for customers to use for free.

Every box remains empty.

It appears customers don't love the idea of being away from their phone, even for the duration of the meal.

Further attempts at promoting family time have been spotted at other restaurants around the country, where outlined boxes are placed on the corner of each table, where customers are encouraged to stack their phones.
